Woohoo! I made a quick chart of my semi- to non- essential spending and my spending is trending downwards! I wonder what I did last June though…maybe I traveled.
I learned my lesson about credit cards the hard way. I came out of college with a couple thousand in credit card debt and I was committed to paying it off when I got my first job. I brought my lunch to work, didn’t go out and kept my shopping to a bare minimum. It was hard to feel like I was on such a short leash. But it worked. I paid it off in less than a year and since then, I’ve never carried a balance on my credit card.
Over the years though, maybe I’ve gotten a little too spend happy. Even though it’s decreasing, $500/month is still a lot to spend on stuff that I don’t really need. I’ll have to look into this more and see where i’m throwing my money. I suspect most of it is on food.
